Six years ago, Angela Churchill-Azor paid $10 to rent a bow and three arrows. Standing five metres away, she spent an hour trying to hit a picture of a rabbit - and didn’t land a single shot. Instead of walking away, she decided to train seriously and become a truly accurate archer.
Two years later, she achieved her goal and quickly rose in New Zealand’s archery scene. She has since broken Archery NZ records twice, won the Archery NZ National Indoor Championship twice, and claimed the Archery NZ National Field Archery Championship title. Internationally, she earned the Asian Pacific Women’s Compound silver medal for two consecutive years.
In 2024, Angela competed in the well-known Massey Safari 3D competition in New Zealand for the very first time - and immediately took out the Women’s Compound Champion title, once again proving her adaptability and competitive strength across different formats and environments.
Behind the many titles and honours, Angela remains grounded and passionate. She never sets limits for herself and refuses to be defined by only one discipline. To her, archery is not simply about chasing results - it is an enjoyment: the focus of drawing the bow, the calmness of a perfect shot, and the thrill of stepping into the unknown.
Although compound bow is her strongest field, Angela continues to train in barebow, recurve, and longbow, because she wants her archery skills to be truly complete. Just as she can perform steadily on the target range and shoot with precision in complex outdoor environments, she wants to go further in this sport - and enjoy it even more along the way.
From a beginner who couldn’t hit a “rabbit,” to a champion who continues to achieve outstanding results both nationally and internationally, Angela has proven through her actions that passion can be the starting point - and that persistence and exploration can turn an interest into a truly shining journey.
