[Special] Coaching Event - James Gaze (17th-19th Aug)

James Gaze from Australia will be visiting Auckland after the Indoor Nationals. Many of you may already know James, but for those who are unfamiliar with him, he has coached some of New Zealand’s top archers, including Kelly Arkinson, Julia Harrison, and Ella Yang — and the results speak for themselves.

This is an amazing opportunity for archers in New Zealand to gain a fresh perspective on their form and technique. It is also a valuable chance for coaches to exchange ideas and learn from one another. James is happy for archers to bring their own coach along to the session.

To make the best use of James’s time, each session will be a minimum of 2 hours, at a rate of $50 per hour.

Background and experience include:

•  Almost 11 years within the sport so far, 9 years’ experience competing internationally, 8 years with the Australian High-Performance Program.
• Level 2 Archery Australia Coach qualifications, 3 years total coaching experience
•  transitioning to a dedicated focus as of November 2025 (multiple archers across Australia and New Zealand having competed on the international stage)
•  Archery Australia Athlete committee member for 2025
• Studying Sport and Exercise Science at Swinburne University of Technology for the past 3 years

What currently offer and skills that are working to attain:

• Coaching for athletes including both technical and mental support based on both my own experiences within archery and what i have learnt over the past 3 years of coaching
•  Insight into high level bow tuning and overall equipment setup for recurve archers
•  Wellbeing and Career Development support for athletes, how to manage outside of archery factors to enable them to perform at their best
•  Insight into the previous decade of the Australian High-Performance system, their development structure and overall philosophy so that Archery New Zealand may learn from both what Australia has done well as well as what has gone poorly.
